I attended the first night of the Evening edition Simbang Gabi Novena or Misa de Gallo (Rooster’s Mass) at the Shrine of Jesus Parish. This is the nine-day dawn mass where Filipino Catholics and Aglipayans gather to celebrate Jesus’ life.
It was a very beautiful celebration that I want to share the meaning behind the acronym PASKO as told during the homily:
P – Pasok (Enter), we have to have Jesus enter our hearts and lives not only this Christmas but everyday of our lives
A – Atras (Exit), shy away with all the negative vices and forces that is driving us away from God
S – Simba (Mass), celebrate God’s love by hearing mass and putting God above everything else
K – Kindness, we have to keep our feet firmly grounded on the ground
O – Oras (Hour), today is time to reflect that God is love and today is the time to do all good things before it’s too late
Before the officiating priest gave his final blessing, churchgoers were asked to sing “Pasko Na Naman” (It’s Christmastime). While we were singing, church service ladies gave us some candy treats and fruits. It was my first Simbang Gabi Novena Mass on that parish and I am really happy I chose to go there. I am looking forward to the reamining 8 days and hoping to complete the novena.
Should you be interested in checking out Shrine of Jesus Parish, it is located at the Mall of Asia complex. And they are the only church in that area. Also, the Simbang Gabi Novena Mass Schedule are:
Evening Edition – December 15 -23, 2009, 8:30PM
Morning Edition – December 16 – 24, 2009, 5:30AM

Special Thanks to Nate0924.
