I fully support this advocacy and I aim to promote an increase in awareness regarding the HIV/AIDS. I’ll be posting very soon more information on how we can help. Meanwhile, you may also check my previous post at http://theblackfedorablog.blogspot.com/2009/11/move.html.

MOVE

Posted on: November 30, 2009

I was lucky to be part of UNAIDS and Headshot Clinic’s MOVE advocacy for 2009. MOVE is a call to action in fighting the spread of HIV/AIDS. Last year the same tandem, UNAIDS and Headshot Clinic, had worked on the highly successful collaboration to spread the issues of HIV/AIDS. The Project Headshot Clinic AWARE took the internet by storm and was able to make the public aware of HIV/AIDS.
First off, let us be educated with the terminologies HIV and AIDS. It’s a common misconception that both acronyms are one and the same. The virus associated with AIDS is called Human Immunodeficiency Virus, or HIV. While AIDS is a syndrome of opportunistic infections and diseases that can develop as immunosuppression deepens along the continuum of HIV infection from primary infection to aids. To make it simplier, use the acronym HIV unless specifically referring to AIDS. Furthermore, there is no AIDS virus as HIV is the virus itself.
Why are we doing this? The average number of HIV/AIDS cases a month has significantly increased, from one case a month in 2008 to two cases a month this 2009. At the present rate, there will be 700 new cases in 2009.
How are we going to do this? We must let it out, spread the word and awareness to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. The statistics is very alarming and we need those numbers to go down. We must increase the level of knowledge today. We must prevent new HIV infections, mitigate its socio-economic and human impact on societies, and most importantly provide care for those infected and affected by the disease.
This collaboration with Headshot Clinic is to give awareness to pressing issues that HIV/AIDS has become. It will inform the public and hopefully instill a call to action in fighting HIV/AIDS. Coinciding with the annual celebration of The World Aids Day (9th of December), a series of portraits will be exhibited in Makati City, Philippines.
We need to act now, we must MOVE and raise our voices to be heard. For more information visit www.unaids.org and www.headshotclinic.com.
